Joined the 147th Battalion, CEF, in Owen Sound, Ontario, on 30 November 1915 (number 838163) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 26 or 27 June 1917 - wounded on 27 or 28 September 1918 - invalided to England on 4 October 1918.
Recommended for an unnamed decoration, but no award made - unit recommendation dated 7 November 1917: "This N.C.O. showed great devotion to duty throughout the operations Oct. 29th to Nov. 2/17, setting a fine example to his section by his cheerfulness and gallantry."
