Born on 15 September 1895 in Camen, Podolsk, Russia - son of Mari Polesky, Camen, Podolsk, Russia - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: trade as laborer; single; no current or previous military service; Roman Catholic; height of 5 feet 8 inches; chest of 38 inches fully expanded; weight of 159 pounds; fair complexion; blue eyes; fair hair.

Joined the 130th Battalion, CEF, in Renfrew, Ontario, on 24 November 1915 (number 788521) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 14 or 15 November 1916 - wounded on 16 June 1917 - rejoined the 38th Battalion on 16 June 1917 - transferred to the Canadian Forestry Corps, CEF, on 8 April 1918.
