Lieutenant Halsey James Pepper

Born on 22 March 1871 in Berkshire County, England - husband of Carolina Pepper, Winnipeg, Manitoba - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address same as wife; trade as hotel manager of Fort Garry Hotel; Protestant; currently a member of the 100th Winnipeg Grenadiers; previously served at West Point (fifteen months).

Joined the 212th Battalion, CEF, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, as an honorary captain and battalion quartermaster on 10 March 1916 - relinquished appointment as honorary captain and battalion quartermaster on 30 December 1916 - promoted to temporary lieutenant on 30 December 1916 - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, as a lieutenant on 1 May 1917 - transferred to the 78th Battalion, CEF, as a temporary lieutenant on 30 January 1918 - seconded as the gas officer for the 12th Brigade from 28 February to 19 November 1918 - promoted to temporary captain with the 78th Battalion on 19 November 1918.
