McHargue, Corbin, Kentucky - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in Winnipeg, Manitoba; trade as farmer; single; no current military service; previously served with the United States Army (three years); Baptist; height of 5 feet 8 inches; chest of 34.5 inches fully expanded; ruddy complexion; blue eyes; dark hair.
Joined the 212th Battalion, CEF, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on 13 March 1916 (number 261024) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 8 or 9 March 1917 - wounded on 26 June 1917 - rejoined the 38th Battalion on 5 October 1917 - wounded on 1 September 1918 - invalided to England on 5 September 1918.
Awarded the Military Medal - no official citation - unit recommendation dated 7 November 1917: "During operations Oct. 29th to Nov. 2/17 this N.C.O. showed exceedingly efficient leadership while his personal courage and perseverance was an example to his entire Company."
