Sergeant Michael McGowan

Born on 26 March 1879 in Sligo, Ireland - husband of Mary E. McGowan, Sligo, Ireland - son of Peter and Mary Anne McGowan, Sligo, Ireland - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: trade as labourer; single; no current or previous military service; Roman Catholic; height of 5 feet 8 inches; chest of 36.5 inches fully expanded; fair complexion; grayish blue eyes; medium hair.

Joined the 59th Battalion, CEF, on 23 March 1915 - transferred to the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 10 June 1915 (number 410552) - served with the 38th Battalion during its period of garrison duty in Bermuda - landed in France with the 38th Battalion on 13 August 1916 - killed in action on 27 September 1918 - buried in Quarry Wood Cemetery (grave III.A.8), France.
