Born on 10 August 1889 in Carleton Place, Ontario - husband of Bella McFadden, Carleton Place, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in Carleton Place, Ontario; trade as moulder; married; currently a member of the 42nd Regiment guard (eleven months); no previous military service; Baptist; height of 5 feet 6.5 inches; chest of 39 inches fully expanded; weight of 170 pounds; ruddy complexion; brown eyes; dark brown hair.

Joined the 240th Battalion, CEF, in Renfrew, Ontario, on 30 June 1916 (number 1042005) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 18 or 19 January 1918 - wounded accidentally on 2 February 1918 - invalided to England on 12 February 1918.
