Born on 16 February 1878 in Windsor, Nova Scotia - husband of Thresia McElhiney, Erie, Pennsylvania - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: present address in Windsor, Nova Scotia - trade as carpenter; married; currently a member of the 81st Regiment (cook); no previous military service; Methodist; height of 5 feet 8.5 inches; chest of 35.5 inches fully expanded; weight of 155 pounds; fair complexion; blue eyes; dark brown hair.

Joined the 237th Battalion, CEF, in Windsor, Nova Scotia, on 13 December 1915 (number 733310) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 19 or 20 March 1917 - invalided sick to England on 12 May 1917.
