Born on 18 October 1877 in Brodie, Ontario - husband of Jean McDougall, South Porcupine, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: trade as merchant; Protestant; currently a member of the 97th Regiment; previously served with the 5th RSC (five years) and in South African (one year).
Joined the 159th Battalion, CEF, in Camp Borden, Ontario, as a Lieutenant on 10 December 1915 - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 30 November 1916 - wounded on 26 April 1917 - invalided to England on 1 May 1917 - transferred to the Canadian Forestry Corps, CEF, on 25 June or 13 July 1917 - promoted to Acting-Captain on 27 September 1917 - promoted to Captain on 27 March 1918.
