Joined the 109th Battalion, CEF, in Woodville, Ontario, on 29 April 1916 (number 724277) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 4 or 6 December 1916 - wounded on 27 March 1917 - invalided to England on 11 April 1917 - rejoined the 38th Battalion on 27 June 1917 - wounded on 30 October 1917 - invalided to England on 10 November 1917.
