Joined the 87th Battalion, CEF, in Cochrane, Ontario, on 29 November 1915 (number 177971) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, in England on 14 July 1916 - landed in France with the 38th Battalion on 13 August 1916 - attached to the 12th Canadian Trench Mortar Battery, CEF, on 16 August 1916 - struck off strength to the 12th Canadian Light Trench Mortar Battery, CEF, on 1 October 1917.
