Born on 12 February 1897 in Harrison's Corners, Ontario - son of Frank Lee, Harrison's Corners, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in Harrison's Corners, Ontario; trade as locomotive engineer; single; no current or previous military service; Roman Catholic; height of 5 feet 8 inches; chest of 37.25 inches fully expanded; fair complexion; gray eyes; brown hair.

Joined the 154th Battalion, CEF, in Cornwall, Ontario, on 3 January 1916 (number 633038) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 18 or 19 January 1918 - wounded on 10 August 1918 - invalided to England on 14 August 1918.
