Born on 14 March 1898 in London, England - son of Mrs. Emily Hunwick, Meaford, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in Meaford, Ontario, trade as sailor, single, no current or previous military service, Methodist, height of 5 feet 6.5 inches, chest of 33.5 inches fully expanded, fair complexion, grey eyes, brown hair.

Joined the 147th Battalion, CEF, in Meaford, Ontario, on 7 February 1916 (number 838817) - taken on the strength of the 58th Battalion, CEF, on 6 or 9 March 1917 - wounded on 26 or 28 October 1917 - transferred to the Canadian Labour Pool, CEF, on 13 April 1918 - rejoined the 58th Battalion on 19 April 1918 - transferred to the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 12 or 13 August 1918 - wounded on 2 September 1918 - invalided to England on 5 September 1918.
