Joined the 72nd Battalion, CEF, as a band sergeant in Vancouver, British Columbia, on 1 October 1915 (number 129985) - landed in France with the 72ndf Battalion on 12 August 1916 - transferred to the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 1 or 2 May 1917 - struck off the strength of the 38th Battalion on 16 June 1919.
Awarded a Mention in Despatches - no official citation - unit recommendation dated 17 January 1919: "Recommended for Mention in Peace Despatch."
Recommended for an unnamed decoration on 3 July 1917: "He formed most valuable work during attack on La Coulotte and Avion." - no medal award.
