Born on 24 January 1888 in Ebbw[?] Vale, Wales - husband of Kathleen Henry, County Yarmouth, England - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in Sheffield, England, trade as electrical engineer, Church of England, currently a member of the 94th Regiment of Infantry, previously served with the Yorkshire Dragoons (four years).
Joined the 94th Regiment's Officers' Draft in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, on 4 September 1916 - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 6 March 1917 - invalided sick to England on 9 June 1917.
Awarded the Military Cross - official citation: "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during an attack. By his great fearlessness and coolness, under heavy and constant artillery fire, he encouraged his men to hold on for five days to the post they had gained, until relieved." - unit recommendation dated 17 April 1917: "For very gallant conduct during operations of Apr. 9th and 13th, 1917."
