Private Charles Mawer Hardie

Born on 11 August 1896 in Hansworth (Birmingham), England - son of Gordon H. and Ethel M. Hardie, Esquimalt, British Columbia - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: trade as McGill student, single, no current military service, previously served with the Victoria High School cadets (three years), Presbyterian, height of 5 feet 8 inches, chest of 39 inches fully expanded, fair complexion, grey eyes, medium hair.

Attended public and high schools in Victoria, British Columbia - attended McGill University College, British Columbia, from 1913 to 1915, graduating with a degree in Science.

Joined the 38th Battalion, CEF, in Vancouver, British Columbia, on 11 March 1915 (number 411049) - transferred to the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry on 11 March 1915 - wounded at the Ypres Salient, Belgium, on 14 or 16 May 1916 - returned to duty after a short convalescence in England - died of wounds on 13 October 1916 - "He suffered shrapnel wounds in the head, at the Somme, on October 9, 1916, and died of these wounds at the dressing station back of the line four days later." - buried in Puchevillers British Cemetery (grave V.C.40), France.
