Company Sergeant-Major (Warrant Officer Class II) Hugh Handyside

Born on 6 October 1886 in Ottawa, Ontario - son of Hugh Handyside, Prescott, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: trade as trainman, single, no current or previous military service, Presbyterian, height of 5 feet 11.25 inches, chest of 39 inches fully expanded, clear complexion, blue eyes, light brown hair.

Joined the 38th Battalion, CEF, in Ottawa, Ontario, on 1 March 1915 (number 410346) - transferred to the 2nd Battalion, CEF, on 25 August 1915 - wounded on 5 June 1916 - wounded on 1 September 1916 - wounded on 5 May 1917.

Awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal.

Awarded the Military Medal.

Lived in Ottawa, Ontario, after the war on Parkdale Avenue.
