Joined the 38th Battalion, CEF, in Vancouver, British Columbia, on 5 March 1915 (number 411040) - transferred to the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry on 17 July 1915 - promoted to Corporal in September 1915 - wounded in Sanctuary Wood, Belgium, on 3 June 1916 - invalided to England in June 1916 - commissioned as a Lieutenant in 1917 - rejoined the PPCLI in May or on 20 September 1917 - wounded at Passchendaele, Belgium, on 30 October 1917 - invalided to England in November 1917 - invalided to Canada in July 1918 - discharged from the CEF in August 1918.
Graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts in 1919.
