Joined the 237th Battalion, CEF, on 25 May 1916 - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 6 or 10 April 1917 - served as the battalion adjutant from 17 March 1918 - wounded on 28 May 1918 - killed in action on 27 September 1918 - buried in Quarry Wood Cemetery (grave I.B.33), France.
Awarded the Military Cross - official citation: "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During a hostile raid on our trenches he collected twenty men of a working party, led them up to the front trenches, and distributed them along the sector attacked. He passed up and down the trench visiting all the posts, and by his cool behaviour and cheerful encouragement inspired all ranks with the utmost confidence." - unit recommendation dated 19 March 1918: "During enemy raid Mar. 16/18 this Officer, by his cool behaviour, confident manner and cheerful encouragement, kept the fighting spirit of his men at the highest pitch."
Awarded a Mentioned-in-Despatches - no official citation - unit recommendation dated 3 July 1917: "He did excellent work during the operations against La Coulotte and Avion June 26th to June 30th, 1917."
