Lieutenant William Everley French, DCM

Born on 29 September 1893 in Manchester, [USA] - son of W.H. French, Oshawa, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: trade as student, single, currently a member of the Queens' Officer Training Corps (four months), no previous military service, Wesleyan, height of 5 feet 5 inches, chest of 37 inches fully expanded, brown complexion, blue eyes, brown hair.

Joined the No. 3 University Company in Oshawa, Ontario, on 29 July 1915 (number 475852) - transferred to Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry on 24 November 1915 - wounded on 16 or 17 September 1916 - invalided to England on 18 September 1916 - commissioned as a lieutenant - transferred to the 6th Reserve Battalion, CEF, on 6 August 1918 - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 1 October 1918 - struck off the strength of the 38th Battalion on 17 June 1919.

Awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal.

Died of sickness on 25 November 1922.
