Lance-Corporal William Finnie

Born on 14 May 1877 in Hamilton, Ontario - son of George and Jemima Finnie, Peterhead, Scotland - brother of Mrs. E. Morgan, Peterhead, Scotland - friend of Miss J. McKay, London, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: trade as painter, single, no current military service, previously served with the Gordon Highlanders (one year), Church of England, height of 5 feet 5.5 inches, chest of 34.5 inches fully expanded, fair complexion, dark and gray eyes, dark brown hair.

Joined the 70th Battalion, CEF, in London, Ontario, on 11 September 1915 (number 123308) - taken on the strength of the 58th Battalion, CEF, on 19 June 1916 - wounded on 9 October 1916 - invalided to England on 13 October 1916 - rejoined the 58th Battalion on 29 March 1918 - transferred to the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 12 or 13 August 1918 - rejoined the 58th Battalion on 9 September 1918 - killed in action on 30 September 1918 - buried in Anneux British Cemetery (grave II.D.25), France.
