Born on 26 April or 10 August 1897 in Hull, Quebec - son of Ferdina Desjardins, Hull, Quebec - at the time of his enlistment in February 1915: trade as labourer, single, currently a member of the 70th Regiment, no previous military service, Roman Catholic, height of 5 feet 3 inches, chest of 34.5 inches fully expanded, brown complexion, black eyes, brown hair - at the time of his enlistment in September 1915: trade as lumberman, single, no current military service, previously served six months with the 41st Battalion, Roman Catholic, height of 5 feet 3.5 inches, chest of 34.5 inches fully expanded, dark complexion, brown eyes, brown hair.

Joined the 41st Battalion, CEF, in Hull, Quebec, on 13 February 1915 (number 416216) - discharged - joined the 77th Battalion, CEF, in Ottawa, Ontario, on 22 September 1915 (number 145166) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, in Bermuda on 6 December 1915 - struck off the strength of the 38th Battalion on 1 January 1916 - taken on the strength of the 22nd Battalion, CEF, on 27 September 1916 - wounded on 17 August 1917.
