Born on 15 August 1891 in Newboyne, Ontario - son of Dennis and Martha Cross, Athens, Ontario - at time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in Athens, Ontario, trade as farmer, single, no current or previous military service, Methodist, height of 5 feet 8 inches, chest of 35 inches fully expanded, dark complexion, brown eyes, dark brown hair.

Joined the 156th Battalion, CEF, in Athens, Ontario, on 3 February 1916 (number 639499) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 18 or 19 January 1918 - declared missing, presumed dead, on 10 August 1918 - name listed on the Vimy Memorial, France.
