Joined the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 15 February 1915 (number 410138) - struck off the strength of the 38th Battalion - joined the 80th Battalion, CEF, on 20 September 1915 - [fate?] - joined the 109th Battalion, CEF, in Lindsay, Ontario, on 15 February 1916 - taken on the strength of the 50th Battalion, CEF, on 10 August 1916 - invalided sick to England on 6 November 1916 - transferred to the 35th Company, Canadian Forestry Corps, on 2 May 1917 - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 3 October 1917 - wounded on 19 or 20 March 1918 - wounded on 21 July 1918 - wounded on 10 August 1918 - wounded on 30 September 1918 - struck off the strength of the 38th Battalion on 21 June 1919.
Stewart Cross was hospitalized at Craiglockhart Hospital, Scotland in 1918 for shell shock after having been buried alive.
ReplyDeleteStewart Cross also served in WWII as a Wing Commander in the RCAF. He was awarded the OBE on June 14, 1945 in the birthday honours list. He died in 1965 in Ottawa.
