Died on 27 July 1953 in Peterborough, Ontario. Buried in Lakefield Cemetery on 30 July 1953.

Private Chesney's grave marker is in Rockhill Cemetery in Foxborough, MA USA and lies by a cannon, cannon balls and a small Canadian flag with the words 'lest we forget'.
