Born on 26 July 1895 in Ottawa, Ontario - husband of Violet Chilton, Ottawa, Ontario - son of James P. and Mina Chilton, Ottawa, Ontario - enlistment records provide the following: present address same as wife, trade as electrician, no current or previous military service, Church of England, height of 5 feet 9.5 inches, chest of 36 inches fully expanded, fair complexion, blue eyes, auburn hair.

Joined the 207th Battalion, CEF, in Ottawa, Ontario, on 20 March 1916 (number 246062) - taken on the strength of Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry on 11 April 1918 - transferred to the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 5 or 6 June 1918 - died on 12 August 1918 of wounds received that day - buried in Mont Huon Military Cemetery (grave V.N.1B), France.
