Born on 15 August 1890 in Holsworthy, Devonshire, England - brother of Mrs. Emma Northy, Holsworthy, Devonshire, England - attestation form notes current address in St. Thomas, Ontario, trade as labourer, single, no current or previous military service, height of 5 feet 3 inches, chest of 37 inches, fresh complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, Methodist.

Joined the 91st Canadian Infantry Battalion on 29 March 1916 (number 190182) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion in France on 20 or 21 August 1916 - wounded on 10 August 1917 - rejoined the battalion on 1 September 1917 - struck off the strength of the battalion on 16 June 1919.

Awarded the Military Medal - no citation - unit recommended 30 October 1918: "For gallantry during operations near Valenciennes."
