Born on 10 September 1892 in Madawaska, Quebec - son of Mrs. Delina Asslin, Manina [?], Quebec - attestation form notes present address in Timmins, Ontario, trade as lumberman, single, presently a member of 97th Regiment, no previous military service, height of 5 feet 5 inches, chest of 34.25 inches, dark complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, Roman Catholic.

Joined the 159th Canadian Infantry Battalion on 24 February 1916 (number 648034) - transferred to the Canadian Forestry Corps on 16 June 1917 - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion in France on 9 or 10 October 1918 - struck off the strength of the battalion on 16 June 1919.
